Waterproofing
Most tiling defects that end up in a dispute start with the waterproofing. Astral Tiling supplies and installs waterproofing membranes as part of our tiling package, so one trade is responsible for everything from the membrane to the final grout line. No gaps between trades, and no finger-pointing if something goes wrong.
Supply and installation
We supply and apply membrane systems suited to each area of your project, installed to the manufacturer’s requirements and the relevant Australian Standards:
- Internal wet areas: bathrooms, ensuites, laundries and commercial amenities
- Balconies, podiums and terraces
- Planter boxes and landscaped decks
- Pool surrounds and plant rooms
- Commercial kitchens and wash-down areas
Systems we trust: Mapei, Ardex and Dribond
We use proven membrane, adhesive and grout systems from Mapei, Ardex and Dribond Construction Chemicals, brands that architects and builders already know and specify. Because we use the same manufacturer’s membrane, primer and tile adhesive together where the system calls for it, every layer is designed to work with the next.
Already specified a particular system? We’ll install to it. Not sure which to choose? We’ll recommend the right product for each area and substrate and provide the manufacturer’s technical data sheets for your records.

Expert advice, early
The best time to get waterproofing right is before it’s built. We’re happy to review details with architects, designers and builders during design and tender, including:
- Choosing the right membrane system for each area and substrate
- Falls to waste, set-downs, hobs and step-downs
- Drainage outlets, puddle flanges and penetrations
- Junctions with doors, windows and wall cladding
- Movement joints and how they carry through the tiling
- Compatibility between membrane, adhesive and tile

How we work
- Review: we look at drawings, specifications and the substrate before we start.
- Prepare: surfaces are cleaned, primed and detailed, with bond breakers and flanges in place.
- Apply: the membrane is installed to the system’s required thickness and coverage.
- Check: we inspect and, where the specification calls for it, flood test before tiling.
- Document: you get the records and product details your project needs for handover.

Why tile and waterproof with one contractor?
- One point of responsibility for the whole wet area
- Membrane and tile adhesive systems that are compatible
- Fewer trades to coordinate on site and fewer delays
- A tiler who knows exactly what’s under the tile
